‘Gaibelball’ to fete late guitarist

Dan Gaibel
Facebook.com

Last month, Dan Gaibel – guitarist for several Ithaca-based bands such as Spacetrain, Tryin' Joe and the Mad Scientist, Monk Meat, and Din – passed away at 45 after being diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Melanoma in May 2018.

This Sunday, several of his friends and bandmates are teaming to present “Gaibelball” at the Range. Running 5-8 p.m., the all-ages show will feature sets from Noon Fifteen, Hollow Choir, Monkmeat (reunion), Thru Spectrums and Spacetrain performing songs Gaibel knew, loved, and wrote.

“I know a lot of people in the community have known Dan for many years; I worked closely with him at Cornell for the last two years of his life and we became good friends,” said Samuel B. Lupowitz, who is playing in several of the bands and helping Chuck Raniewicz to organize the show. “It's a very sad time, but Dan was very excited that we were planning a musical tribute to him, so we want to pull it off as well as we can.”

Suggested donation is $10 at the door, or feel free to contribute online at www.gofundme.com/khm42-dan. Funds will offset medical expenses and benefit his wife Taiya Luce and four-year-old son Kai.

Also, memorial donations in Dan's name are welcome at Hospicare of Ithaca. For more information on the show, go here.
