Mrs. Coretta Scott King, widow of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., has died at the age of 78. In a 1998 interview with NPR, Mrs. King reflects on the importance of music to the Civil Rights Movement.
And to honor Mrs. King's memory, we draw on music from a long-standing tradition in Atlanta. From the 2005 edition of the annual King Celebration concert, we hear "Lift Every Voice and Sing," performed by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the glee clubs of Morehouse and Spelman colleges.
