Kinetic Dance Collective (formerly known as Koshare Dance Collective) is an all inclusive student run dance club at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Founded in 1971 as Koshare Dance Collective, KDC is a beloved tradition at the Colleges intended to foster communication, individuality, teamwork, and creative expression through the art of dance. This year we celebrate 50 years of dancing at the colleges!
In the spring of 2021, following the social awakening of the summer of 2020, Koshare Dance Collective changed its name to Kinetic Dance Collective. This decision was made to more accurately represent our club’s mission and so as not to appropriate the Pueblo Indian Clown society to whom the term ‘Koshare’ belongs. However, our mission to cultivate a community of dancers as a student-led organization remains the same. The integrity of the former Koshare Dance Collective remains intact in KDC despite operating under a new, more inclusive name.
We are so excited to be back performing at the Smith Opera House this year! Our showcase includes works from 24 choreographers in styles ranging from tap to modern, hip-hop to bollywood, contemporary to k-pop, step to jazz and more! The over 90 dancers of KDC cannot wait to be back and share with the greater HWS community our love for dance!
We would like to acknowledge the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and by honoring the sovereignty of the Six Nations–the Mohawk, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, Seneca and Tuscarora–and their land that we dance on today.Join us as the students of Hobart and William Smith Colleges take the stage for two nights of dance! Featuring a variety of dance styles, Koshare celebrates the diverse dance community at HWS.
