To celebrate this opportunity, Peggy Haine and the Lowdown Alligator Jass Band will perform in a one-of-a-kind benefit concert filled with jazz and spectacle on Saturday evening, May 6. All proceeds will go directly to the Capital Campaign Match!
“The band started in 1976 as a duo with tuba player Dane Marion and Peggy on piano and vocals, and grew to a seven-piece group, adding one by one Dane’s IC classmate clarinetist Brian Earle, trombonist Dave Davies, drummer Michael Wellen who also played a little trumpet, cornettist Johnny Russo (later replaced by Ithaca College trumpet professor Frank Campos), David Frumkin on violin and banjo. Over the years others stepped in, including bassist Harry Aceto who now joins us on guitar and banjo. Dan May, a graduate student at Cornell in composition, relieved Peggy at the piano (so she could concentrate on feather boa manipulation), and after him they were joined by the spectacular jazz pianist Molly MacMillan.”

Piano Man
Augustana comes to Central New York. “While the artist is well-known for its anthemic indie-rock leaning hits like ‘Boston,’ ‘Sweet and Low,’ and ‘Steal Your Heart, Augustana's consistent march of new and ever-evolving material has embodied a refusal to settle artistically. Never has that been more clearly evident than with the artist's latest studio album, ‘Everyday an Eternity: Solo Piano Works,’ a genre-shaking full-length record that redefines what can be expected from this artist.
“Composing and performing a series of piano pieces that can easily live in the contemporary classical world, Dan Layus confidently chooses to leave his singing voice aside for the project and instead finds his lyricism echoing through the hammers and strings of the piano. The album' finds the composer's unique melodic and structural stylings effortlessly blending between the classical, the romantic and the modern. Along the way, the unfamiliar terrain for the artist seems to become more familiar with each note, each modulation, each variation, as he makes his way out to the edge of musical expression and safely back home again.”
When: 8 p.m. Saturday
Where: Center for the Arts, Homer
Cost: $25, available online here

For the Children
Deep Dive continues its busy weekend with “The Rock & Roll Playhouse Plays Music of Grateful Dead for Kids,” featuring Mikaela Davis & Southern Star.

Performing songs created by the most iconic musicians in rock history, The Rock and Roll Playhouse band offers its core audience of families with children age ten and under games, movement, stories and an opportunity to rock out in an effort to educate children and explore their creativity. The Rock and Roll Playhouse is an early and often first introduction to a child’s lifelong journey with live music and rock and roll. See you at the show!
“This concert for kids and families shares the music of the artist named above with a new generation of music lovers, but is not associated with or endorsed by the artist. All children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver.”

“Kasper has kept good company opening for, lyric-tossing & sitting in with the likes of Amos Lee, The Wood Brothers, and G Love. They hand-picked him out of a sea of songwriters to support multiple country-wide tours since 2013, when he released Bagabones.
